The formula
Find the volume in cubic feet, then divide by the Quikrete bag yield: about 0.60 ft³ for an 80 lb bag, 0.45 ft³ for a 60 lb bag, and 0.30 ft³ for a 40 lb bag:
Bags = Volume (ft³) ÷ Bag yield (ft³), rounded up
Worked example. An 8 ft × 4 ft slab at 4 inches thick is 8 × 4 × 0.333 = 10.7 cubic feet. That is about 18 × 80 lb, 24 × 60 lb, or 36 × 40 lb bags of Quikrete before adding waste.
