This Quikrete calculator tells you how many bags of Quikrete to buy for a slab, footing or pad. Enter the length, width and thickness, pick the Quikrete mix you're using, and it gives you the bag count for 40, 60 and 80 lb bags with 10 percent added for waste. You also get the total in cubic yards and the weight, so you can tell whether bags still make sense or it's time to call for ready-mix.

Yields are from each product's data sheet, starting with Concrete Mix No. 1101, where the 90 lb bag is listed as available in some regions only. Two things catch people out. Sand/Topping Mix has no gravel, so an 80 lb bag yields 0.66 cubic feet instead of 0.60, and estimating it as concrete mix buys about 10 percent too many. And Fast-Setting comes in 50 and 60 lb bags only in the US, so there's no 80 lb count to work out. To see how other brands stack up per yard, check our full chart.
How the calculator works
- Enter the length, width and thickness of the pour.
- Pick the Quikrete mix you're buying, or leave it on generic bags.
- Keep the 10 percent waste setting. Bags are sold whole, so the count rounds up.
Bags = length × width × thickness (ft³) ÷ bag yield (ft³), rounded up
Example: a 10 × 10 ft slab, 4 inches thick
10 × 10 × 0.333 = 33.3 cubic feet, or 1.23 cubic yards, a little over one yard of concrete. Add 10 percent and you need 36.7 cubic feet, which is:
- 62 bags of 80 lb Concrete Mix, 5000, Crack Resistant or Q•Max Pro
- 82 bags of 60 lb or 98 bags of 50 lb
- 123 bags of 40 lb
Sixty-two 80 lb bags is almost 5,000 lb to carry and mix, close to the weight of the cured slab once it's poured. Quikrete cement vs Quikrete concrete mix
Concrete Mix already has the cement, sand and gravel in it; you just add water, and that's what this calculator counts. Quikrete Portland Cement is only the binder, sold in 31, 47 and 94 lb bags, and Quikrete's recipe is 1 part cement, 2 parts sand and 3 parts gravel by volume. Frequently asked questions
How many bags of Quikrete make a yard?
45 bags of 80 lb Concrete Mix, 60 bags of 60 lb, 72 of 50 lb or 90 of 40 lb. The 90 lb bag, sold in some regions, takes 40. Quikrete doesn't print a bags-per-yard figure; these are 27 cubic feet divided by each bag's published yield.
How much concrete does a bag of Quikrete make?
An 80 lb bag of Concrete Mix makes 0.60 cubic feet, enough for about 1.8 square feet at 4 inches deep. A 60 lb bag makes 0.45 cubic feet and a 40 lb bag 0.30.
Does Sand/Topping Mix yield the same as Concrete Mix?
No. Sand/Topping Mix yields 0.66 cubic feet per 80 lb bag against 0.60 for Concrete Mix, and 0.50 per 60 lb against 0.45, because it has no gravel. Estimate it as concrete mix and you buy about 10 percent too many.
Is there an 80 lb bag of Quikrete Fast-Setting?
Not in the US. Quikrete’s data sheet lists Fast-Setting Concrete Mix in 50 and 60 lb bags, yielding 0.375 and 0.45 cubic feet.
How much Quikrete do I need for a fence post?
