An 80 lb bag of QUIKRETE Concrete Mix makes about 0.60 cubic feet of concrete, a 60 lb bag about 0.45 and a 40 lb bag about 0.30, so 45 eighty-pound bags make a cubic yard. Once you know how many cubic feet in a bag of Quikrete, the bag count is one division: your pour's volume plus 10 percent, divided by the yield, rounded up.

Coverage is the yield divided by the thickness in feet. A 4 inch slab is standard for a patio or shed floor, and at that depth an 80 lb bag covers only 1.8 square feet.
How to calculate bags of Quikrete
- Measure the volume in cubic feet. For a slab, length × width × thickness in feet (4 inches ÷ 12 = 0.333 ft). For a round hole, 3.14 × radius × radius × depth.
- Add 10 percent for spillage and an uneven base.
- Divide by the bag yield: 0.60 for 80 lb, 0.45 for 60 lb, 0.30 for 40 lb.
- Round up to the next whole bag.
Example: 4 × 4 ft pad, 4 in thick
4 × 4 × 0.333 = 5.33 ft³. Plus 10 percent is 5.87 ft³. 5.87 ÷ 0.60 = 9.8, so buy 10 bags of 80 lb.
Example: 16 ft footing, 8 × 8 in
16 × 0.667 × 0.667 = 7.11 ft³. Plus 10 percent is 7.82 ft³. 7.82 ÷ 0.45 = 17.4, so buy 18 bags of 60 lb.
